One Year On...

Sunday, 27 January 2013

Hello everyone, today is my one year blogging anniversary. Yes, Water Painted Dreams is now 1 year old. I would just like to thank everyone who has supported my blog over the last year. When I started I didn't think that I'd get anywhere near as far as I have. I don't think I could have done it without my amazing followers, every time I get a new follower or a new comment it really cheers me up and I am so grateful to have such lovely readers. I really want to do a give away to celebrate this and the fact that I now have 500 followers but I have exams starting on Wednesday so it'll be a while before I have the spare time to go get a prize. It will be up sometime soon though.

I've been looking back through my archives and I thought I'd share some of my favourite posts with you all, I know a few of you might have read them all already but it's good to reminisce and I think newer followers will like it.

My First Proper Post- This is so cringey to look at, I really just put this in for a laugh. Look at how bad my photography is! I actually still have the post it note and haven't used up most of the items, oops!

Hatched Nails Tutorial- The photos on this aren't too great but I am really proud of this post. I actually really liked this nail look and looking back on it I'm tempted to do it again.

Lush Cupcake Face Mask Review- Review of probably my favourite Lush product, just wish this had bigger photos!

M&M Cookies - Hurrah, I've finally made the transition to larger photos. This has made me realise it's been ages since I've properly shared a recipe. Need to get baking.

100th Post, 100 Followers & Design Updates - I felt so proud writing this post and I still really love my blog design, thank you Jess!

FOTN & Exam Results - Not going to lie, I only like this post so much because I'm mega proud of my results!

An Edinburgh Adventure - My first proper 'life' post, take me back to summer please!

10 Day You Challenge - Loved doing this challenge, really recommend it if you're looking for a way for your followers to get to know you more.

Nestle? No Way - This is my favourite post. I'm so glad that I was able to do something really good with my blog. So proud that this is my most viewed post.

An Evening In Glasgow - Really like this post because it reminds me of a lovely evening.

50 Things I've Done - This post was so well received, everyone seemed to really like it and quite a lot of people also done their own.

Dubonnet Review - This was the first post in which I properly edited the photos so I really like it because of that. Check out that added text on the second photo!

So there we go, that's my top 12 posts from the past 12 months. Would just like to say thank you once again for all the support everyone has given me!

Mac Lipstick - Dubonnet Review With Swatches

Tuesday, 22 January 2013

Hello everyone! I've got a pretty exciting review for you all today, my first MAC lipstick. I received this for Christmas from my friends Louise and Rachel(they also have a blog which you can read here) and I'm very pleased with it, we all went to the store and chose a shade each, best decision for Christmas presents ever.

I decided to go with Dubonnet , a deep red colour. It's an amplified creme finish which means that it's very opaque but quite shiny.  I asked one of the make up artists to apply this for me whilst we were in the store and as soon as I seen it on I knew I had to have it. The colour is absolutely beautiful, it's not your typical bright red and it looks so complimentary with my skin tone. It's a bit more 'vampy' and definitely has some brown tones through it, whilst brown isn't the first colour I'd choose to put on my lips it looks really nice. You can work it up so that it's really dark or you can apply it lightly and add some lip balm for a lighter, more sheer shade. This versatility is a major plus. Dubonnet is a wine based drink so I think the name is very accurate, quite clever too.

The lasting finish of these lipstick are very impressive. I was a bit worried when I had it applied in the store as we were out for the day in Edinburgh and I knew I wouldn't be able to touch it up. We left Harvey Nichols and headed straight to Pizza Hut so I just figured it would rub off with eating and drinking but after our meal it was pretty much perfect! I find that you can get around 5 hours of wear with this with minimal touch ups. It really helps if you apply it and then blot it out with some tissue and re apply it. This also makes the colour a lot deeper.

Now onto the really nitty gritty part, the price. These lipsticks aren't exactly cheap considering that they're £14 but I do think that they are worth it. The lasting power of this is insane compared to any other "drugstore" lipsticks I've tried. I also have a few Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Voluptes because my friend's mum used to work for them and I honestly think that these are a lot better quality, the YSL ones bleed like a mofo!

Overall I'm super impressed with this lipstick and I'm now seriously considering adding another to my collection. At the moment I'm not too sure which one I want to go for although I've been reading a lot of really great reviews of Plumful. Have you tried this lipstick or any other by MAC? If so what's your favourite?

Week In Photos #36

Nephew / Friends cat

I have failed majorly with the photos for the week. I've been doing so much revision this week that I really haven't had time to do anything worth photographing. I've been trying to do 3 hours per day but when I hit the weekend I failed miserably(so far I've done 1 hour since Thursday) but oh well. I still have two weeks-ish until my prelims start. And they've extended the study leave which is always a plus.

My gorgeous little (step)nephew came up from Penrith to see me on Sunday night. I haven't seen him since he was five weeks old and now he's seven months! He's gotten really big and it was great to get to see him again. Then on Friday I went over to a friend's house with a group of people and we ordered Chinese food. I shared chilli and garlic crispy shredded chicken with my friend Amy and it was delicious. We also watched The Woman In Black, I've seen it before but I was still really scared. There were actually a few times where we all screamed, although that might of just been the atmosphere and not really the movie.

New years eve / Deathly hallows bracelet
Golden snitch earrings / Annoying the fish

I've just realised that this set of photos is completely centred around me and Stuart, I promise I never wanted it to turn out this way. The first photo is from New years eve, Stuart came over to my house at about 5 and we had dinner and then watched some House, we wanted to watch The Big Fat Quiz of the year but 4od was being a bitch and we had to wait forever for it to buffer. It was hilarious so well worth the wait, I just wish they'd had someone else instead of Gabby Logan, she just didn't fit in with the rest of them.

Then at half 10 we headed to a party at one of Stuart's friend's place. It was pretty good, I didn't really know anyone but there was only about 8 people there and everyone was super friendly. It was a really good night and I slept until 11 the next day, this is so strange for me as normally I'm a morning person!

I spent all of Wednesday and Friday revising, so far I've managed to do about 18 hours of revision which is pretty decent as I go back to school tomorrow and then I'm going to be cramming everything because my prelims(or mock exams as I think they're called in England) are at the end of January. On Thursday I went to the centre to try and find a new bag for school as mine has broken and I couldn't find one so I have no idea what I'm going to do! Then I went over to Stuart's and we watched a gazillion episodes of House(are you noticing a pattern here? We've nearly finished season 3). He gave me the awesome HP jewellery for Christmas but they didn't come in time, I love them so much though. Well worth the wait.

13 Things For 2013

Tuesday, 1 January 2013

Hello everyone, this is just a quick post to share my new year's resolutions with you all.

1. Spank the ass off my highers.
Sorry to put it so bluntly but I really want to do well in my exams this year. I need to study hard, attend every revision class and speak up when I don't understand things. I want a minimum of 3 As and 2 Bs but am aiming for 4 As and a B.

2. Cut down on fizzy juice.
By the end of the year I want to be only drinking fizzy juice rarely, like when I'm out for dinner/lunch or at my gran's house(that's pretty much all she has). I actually really don't like coke or pepsi, I drink them because they're there and that's just not good enough.

3. Fill a jar with good memories.
I want to get a jar and write good memories down and place them in the jar. When I'm feeling down I can go back through them all and it will really cheer me up.

4. Do more outfit posts.
I really want to start featuring my outfits on my blog. I'm aiming to do at least one a month. I know that's not a lot to some people but that's pretty big to me. It would also help if I told some people in my family about my blog so they could take photos for me.

5. Eat more vegetables.
I'm pretty much veg-phobic and this needs to change. For example I only like carrots raw but I hardly ever eat them, how hard is it when I practically have to do nothing to prepare?

6. Keep a diary for the year.
I think this would be really interesting and help me reflect well on the year.

7. Change my blog.
I do love the way my blog looks now but I'd like to tweak it about, I want to make it seem 'cleaner' so that the main focus is the post. Also definitely need to change the photo of me in the sidebar , it's really outdated. I'd also like to start doing a lot more 'life' posts.

8. Go on a date with Stuart at least once a month.
We're too prone to just having nights in together. It's fun getting a bit dressed up and going out for dinner, we need to do it more.

9. Carry on exercising.
At the start of December I started doing the Tone It Up work outs and I've been enjoying it. I also want to invest in a set of dumbbells.

10. Cook more meals from scratch.
I want to start making my own meals, I do it quite a lot already but I want to start making my own sauces as well instead of jars and sachets.

11. Hit 750 followers.
I think this would be an insane goal to reach and it would make me feel so happy and that my blog is actually going somewhere.

12. Grow my hair.
I want my hair down to my boobs for prom!

13. Worry less.
I'm such a worrier, I end up ruining a lot of things for myself just by freaking out over the little things. I just need to calm down.

What are your goals for 2013?
