OOTN: My Birthday Party

Hello everyone, just a quick OOTN post to show you what I wore for my birthday party. My birthday was on January 20th which is a Sunday so I had my party on the 19th. I managed to talk my parents into letting me have a house party, it went really well and nothing was broken(or put in my fish tank which was my main concern). I really loved this outfit and I do think my legs look pretty damn good in the tights if I do say so myself. I've also been considering doing a birthday haul but I'm not sure. If I decide to do one it will probably be up after February favourites/empties time.

Dress - Topshop,  Tights - Primark, Shoes - New Look, Lipstick - MAC Dubonnet

Essie - Chinchilly

Etsy(don't know which seller, sorry)

Would you be interested in seeing a birthday haul?

One Year On...

Hello everyone, today is my one year blogging anniversary. Yes, Water Painted Dreams is now 1 year old. I would just like to thank everyone who has supported my blog over the last year. When I started I didn't think that I'd get anywhere near as far as I have. I don't think I could have done it without my amazing followers, every time I get a new follower or a new comment it really cheers me up and I am so grateful to have such lovely readers. I really want to do a give away to celebrate this and the fact that I now have 500 followers but I have exams starting on Wednesday so it'll be a while before I have the spare time to go get a prize. It will be up sometime soon though.

I've been looking back through my archives and I thought I'd share some of my favourite posts with you all, I know a few of you might have read them all already but it's good to reminisce and I think newer followers will like it.

My First Proper Post- This is so cringey to look at, I really just put this in for a laugh. Look at how bad my photography is! I actually still have the post it note and haven't used up most of the items, oops!

Hatched Nails Tutorial- The photos on this aren't too great but I am really proud of this post. I actually really liked this nail look and looking back on it I'm tempted to do it again.

Lush Cupcake Face Mask Review- Review of probably my favourite Lush product, just wish this had bigger photos!

M&M Cookies - Hurrah, I've finally made the transition to larger photos. This has made me realise it's been ages since I've properly shared a recipe. Need to get baking.

100th Post, 100 Followers & Design Updates - I felt so proud writing this post and I still really love my blog design, thank you Jess!

FOTN & Exam Results - Not going to lie, I only like this post so much because I'm mega proud of my results!

An Edinburgh Adventure - My first proper 'life' post, take me back to summer please!

10 Day You Challenge - Loved doing this challenge, really recommend it if you're looking for a way for your followers to get to know you more.

Nestle? No Way - This is my favourite post. I'm so glad that I was able to do something really good with my blog. So proud that this is my most viewed post.

An Evening In Glasgow - Really like this post because it reminds me of a lovely evening.

50 Things I've Done - This post was so well received, everyone seemed to really like it and quite a lot of people also done their own.

Dubonnet Review - This was the first post in which I properly edited the photos so I really like it because of that. Check out that added text on the second photo!

So there we go, that's my top 12 posts from the past 12 months. Would just like to say thank you once again for all the support everyone has given me!

Guest Post: How To Style A Denim Mini Skirt

Outfit One: Add A Chunky Knit
(1) Burgundy Jumper: Newlook (2) Oasis Digital Watch: Hand-me-down (3)Denim Pencil Skirt: Charity Shop (4) Black Patent Loafers: Next/Hand-me-down
This outfit is great for those days when you're not too fussed to 'dress up' and you just want to chuck on a big knit and be done with it! This burgundy jumper adds a subtle 'pop' of colour and is good for those winter days.
Outfit Two: Night Out
(1) Black Lace Leotard: TK Maxx (2) Oasis Digital Watch: Hand-me-down (3)Denim Pencil Skirt: Charity Shop (4) Heeled Boots: TK Maxx
This outfit is more appropriate for the evening due to the heeled boots from TK Maxx that make it just that little extra 'grown up'. This lace leotard can be worn on it's own and I think it looks very glam. You can also pop on a cardigan if you get a bit chilly!

Outfit Three: She Wore Black Velvet
(1) Black Velvet T-Shirt: Charity Shop (2) Gold Chain: Charity Shop (3) Denim Pencil Skirt: Charity Shop (4) Brown Loafers: River Island/Gift
I think I have a slight hoarding obsession with velvet t-shirts. This outfit is great for school/college/running errands etc. The chain adds an accent of gold and I think, brings out the colour of the buttons a bit more. The loafers are my all time favourite shoes and are super comfortable!

Outfit 4: I Wear Monochrome Because I Like to Pretend I'm French...
(1) Monochrome Dress (worn as a top): Primark/Gift (2) Oasis Digital Watch: Hand-me-down (3)Denim Pencil Skirt: Charity Shop (4) Black Patent Pumps: Primark
I like this outfit because, the collar makes it smarter and appropriate for work.  The hand-me-down oasis watch is my new best friend and adds to the outfit as an accent of gold and the black patents pumps are honestly just for comfort.

I really hope you like this post!
Thank you very much to Hayley for giving me this opportunity!

Mac Lipstick - Dubonnet Review With Swatches

Hello everyone! I've got a pretty exciting review for you all today, my first MAC lipstick. I received this for Christmas from my friends Louise and Rachel(they also have a blog which you can read here) and I'm very pleased with it, we all went to the store and chose a shade each, best decision for Christmas presents ever.

I decided to go with Dubonnet , a deep red colour. It's an amplified creme finish which means that it's very opaque but quite shiny.  I asked one of the make up artists to apply this for me whilst we were in the store and as soon as I seen it on I knew I had to have it. The colour is absolutely beautiful, it's not your typical bright red and it looks so complimentary with my skin tone. It's a bit more 'vampy' and definitely has some brown tones through it, whilst brown isn't the first colour I'd choose to put on my lips it looks really nice. You can work it up so that it's really dark or you can apply it lightly and add some lip balm for a lighter, more sheer shade. This versatility is a major plus. Dubonnet is a wine based drink so I think the name is very accurate, quite clever too.

The lasting finish of these lipstick are very impressive. I was a bit worried when I had it applied in the store as we were out for the day in Edinburgh and I knew I wouldn't be able to touch it up. We left Harvey Nichols and headed straight to Pizza Hut so I just figured it would rub off with eating and drinking but after our meal it was pretty much perfect! I find that you can get around 5 hours of wear with this with minimal touch ups. It really helps if you apply it and then blot it out with some tissue and re apply it. This also makes the colour a lot deeper.

Now onto the really nitty gritty part, the price. These lipsticks aren't exactly cheap considering that they're £14 but I do think that they are worth it. The lasting power of this is insane compared to any other "drugstore" lipsticks I've tried. I also have a few Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Voluptes because my friend's mum used to work for them and I honestly think that these are a lot better quality, the YSL ones bleed like a mofo!

Overall I'm super impressed with this lipstick and I'm now seriously considering adding another to my collection. At the moment I'm not too sure which one I want to go for although I've been reading a lot of really great reviews of Plumful. Have you tried this lipstick or any other by MAC? If so what's your favourite?

Soap and Glory: The Breakfast Scrub Review

Hello everyone, I've got a review today. The Breakfast Scrub is pretty infamous by now but I thought I'd share my thoughts on it.

This products is known for it's signature maple syrup, pancakey scent. Whenever I'm in Boots I always wander over to the Soap and Glory section and give everything a little sniff. When I first smelt this I couldn't understand why everyone liked it so much, it just seemed to be too sweet and sickly and definitely not something I wanted to rub all over by body. But I kept going back to it again and again, eventually the scent grew on me and this went up pretty high on my wishlist. I asked my granny to get it for me for Christmas, she did(thank you!) and now I'm in love with it.

The thing I like about this is that it's not too harsh a scrub like Sugar Crush but it still feels really nice and like it's actually doing something. I use this twice a week because I don't want it to run out too quickly but I believe you could use this a lot more often without it damaging your skin. The smell is something  that I love as well, now I can't go in the shower without giving it a sniff, even if I'm not using it. And as usual the Soap and Glory packaging is adorable, funny and 'vintage'. The only thing that irks me about this product is that £9 is a bit steep for 300ml, I would grudge it but I would probably repurchase this anyway. Overall, a great scrub with an amazing scent.

Have you tried this or any other Soap and Glory scrubs? I'm trying to work my way through them all, so far I've tried this and Sugar Crush, what should I try next? Also it's my birthday tomorrow, yay!

My New Favourite Nail Combo

Hello everyone, just a quick little post to share a great new combo I've found.

Avon's Color Trend nail enamel in Deluxe with a coat of Topshop's Gem over the top. The Avon polish was a Christmas present and I won the Topshop one in a giveaway, this combo was fate(so cheesy!). Gem is actually the first glitter nail polish I've ever tried and I'm super impressed with it. It has little fine bits through it as well as some larger circular pieces. Both the polishes applied well and I'm super happy with them. You can buy Deluxe here but I can't seem to find Gem on line.

Week In Photos #36

Nephew / Friends cat

I have failed majorly with the photos for the week. I've been doing so much revision this week that I really haven't had time to do anything worth photographing. I've been trying to do 3 hours per day but when I hit the weekend I failed miserably(so far I've done 1 hour since Thursday) but oh well. I still have two weeks-ish until my prelims start. And they've extended the study leave which is always a plus.

My gorgeous little (step)nephew came up from Penrith to see me on Sunday night. I haven't seen him since he was five weeks old and now he's seven months! He's gotten really big and it was great to get to see him again. Then on Friday I went over to a friend's house with a group of people and we ordered Chinese food. I shared chilli and garlic crispy shredded chicken with my friend Amy and it was delicious. We also watched The Woman In Black, I've seen it before but I was still really scared. There were actually a few times where we all screamed, although that might of just been the atmosphere and not really the movie.
