DIY: Blogging Calendar

Sunday, 3 August 2014

Hello everyone! I've seen a good few blog posts going around recently about making your own editorial calendar for your blog using spreadsheets. These are all fine and dandy but personally I prefer to use good old paper. I find that if I make a file on my computer, I forget about it and it never gets used. If I have a physical copy of this that I can hang above my desk then I can always see it and won't forget about it. I thought I'd show you how I make my own. I'm going to be doing a little something different in August. I've been blogging every day for over a year and I think it is time for me to stop that. I love blogging but I kind of feel like it has been taking over my life a little bit and I need to step back and take a breather. So I'm going to force myself to blog every second day instead, hopefully this calendar will help me do that!

You'll need:
Plain paper
A ruler
Coloured pens(I'm using these from Viking Stationery*)

Start off by drawing on a grid. I made mine 5 inches by 7 inches in square boxes. this leaves you more than enough squares for one month. Then add the days of the week along the top of the columns. I chose to do it in a kind of rainbow and I think it looks really cute!

Then I added a little space down the side for post ideas/things to do. Also a key along the bottom  with the types of posts you do most often. By filling in the posts in a colour coordinated manor it makes it easy to pick out what sort of posts you haven't done in a while or what sort of posts you've been doing too much. At this point it would be a good idea to either photocopy the calendar or to scan it to your computer. That way you can replicate it for future months.

Now add in the dates and the name of the month along the top. I also added a little motivational quote to the bottom right hand side. This is just for a little pick me up. I think it would be cute to change this every month too.

Now all that's left to do is to fill in your posts. I personally don't like to fill in the posts for the whole month at the start as I never end up sticking to it. But I do like to plan about 1/2 weeks ahead. I think that keeping your blog well organised is the key to being able to keep control of everything!

So what do you think? Will you be making your own blogging calendar?
