Wagamama's New Menu

On Friday night I went to Wagamama with my dear blogging friend, Leda, for a catch up over some delicious Japanese food. Wagamama have added a few new sides as their autumn/winter menu so we were pretty excited to try them out. We opted to order a few sides to share rather than a main each - the best way to get to try out a little bit of everything. The restaurant was busy so we had a bit of a wait but a waiter was brining around samples of food and juice for everyone to try whilst we waited - amazing customer service. 


Starting with the new menu items, we shared some of the bang bang cauliflower. Crispy, wok fried cauliflower served in the old classic firecracker sauce. Cauliflower is definitely an underrated vegetable and this was really nice. I've never have cauliflower served fried before but I loved it. This dish also packs quite a bit of heat for the spice fiends amongst us. 


Last year Wagamama launched their steamed buns and have now expanded the menu. There are now four different types available: crispy tori kara age chicken with fresh tomato, mixed mushroom with panko aubergine, pork belly with panko apple and Korean barbecue beef with red onion. I had gotten a little confused as to which ones were new so we ended up trying the pork belly and barbecue beef buns. Leda and I both preferred the beef as we weren't keen on the panko apple in the pork belly but both were delicious. The buns were light and fluffy and the flavour combinations worked out really well. We got to try some of the tori kara age chicken whilst we were waiting and I can imagine the flavour would work lovely in the buns and give a bit of crunch. 



The chilli squid is a long standing Wagamama favourite of mine so we couldn't not order it. Leda is also a big squid fan so we really enjoyed this. A lot of people are put off of the idea of squid but this is really fresh and not rubbery at all. The chilli is quite a bit of spice but not over powering - a perfect winter warmer!


One of my favourite things about eating out is eating dishes I wouldn't normally cook for myself. So to finish off we ordered two duck dishes - the duck gyoza and the duck wraps. Both come with a delicious cherry sauce. I've had gyoza in a few different Japanese restaurants but being completely honest the Wagamama duck gyoza are my all time favourite. Crispy, fresh and delicious. The duck wraps were delicious but the portion size was a little on the small size compared to how much of everything else we got. 


By this point we were totally and utterly full so walked home chatting with massive food babies. Wagamama is one of my favourite chain restaurants and I would really recommend trying it out.
