Isle of Skye Travel Diary

I've always wanted to visit the Isle of Skye so in a spontaneous decision we decide to book one night there for our weekend road trip. We booked this air bnb which was actually beautiful but in the south of the island. We opted to drive rather than get the ferry but if you do take the ferry this is a perfect location! We arrived on the island about 2 and drove straight to the fairy pools, stopping to take photos on the way of course.

To get to the fairy pools you park up and walk from there. It's a very short walk and only takes about 20 minutes but involves a lot of hills and stepping stones so maybe not the best if you aren't too steady on your feet. The photos I've taken don't really do them justice but they are so beautiful. The pools consist of a series of waterfalls and pools of the bluest water. It's supposed to be good luck to swim in the pools but considering it was so cold we gave it a miss. We did watch one brave man take the plunge however!

From there we drove to our Air BnB to settle in for the night as it was getting dark and the roads aren't well lit. We stopped at a hotel along the way. I can't remember the name but I'm not sure I'd really recommend the food anyway so I'm not sure that's really a bad thing. There was a very cute dog in the car park though.

Our air bnb was absolutely gorgeous and was in a very nice and quiet area of the island. We had a sea view that would have shown us the sunrise but it was very cloudy as you can see. When we got back to Edinburgh my friend Imogen told me that Skye is actually under cloud for the majority of the year which is a bit of a shame! Nevertheless, it was an amazing trip.

In the morning we had quite a drive home so after checking out we hit the road. I hated the drive home as it involved a lot of twisting roads and made me feel very car sick. Beautiful views but be warned! It took around 5 hours to drive back to Edinburgh. Which is excellent considering it took 5 hours for us to get to Inverness anyway.

This was a totally whirlwind weekend but one that made be fall back in love with Scotland all over again.
