I'm Moving To The US!

Wednesday, 21 June 2017
There's a US visa in my passport and a one-way flight to JFK with my name on it. Tomorrow I'll be leaving Scotland to move to the US for 12 months. I've mentioned it before but I thought I'd write a proper blog post about it. I'm moving to undertake an industrial placement as part of my degree so I'll have a full-time job for the next year. I'll be living in the New England area of the US, on the east coast, and will hopefully get to do a lot of travelling whilst I'm there.

Things have been a bit tough for me recently, unfortunately, my dog Sam passed away this month as a result of poisoning. A few dogs in the area have been killed and it's left me feeling angry, upset and a little bit empty. This move gives me a bit of a fresh start and something to look forward to, which has really helped me get through the last few days.

This is really unlike anything that I've ever done before and I think it's going to be very challenging, but rewarding in its own right. It's a little bit mental to think that I won't be home until Christmas. I haven't lived in my parent's house during term time since I was in high school - but Edinburgh is so close to my hometown that I can visit for the day/weekend at the drop of a hat. Going a whole 6 months is not going to be easy. Although, I'm sure time will pass faster than I expect it to.

I'm not really sure what's going to be happening with my blog. I have some content scheduled for the next few weeks but after that posts may get a bit sparse as I really want to throw myself into my 'new life'. But I'm sure I'll have lots of stories to tell as well.

Stick with me, things are about to change.

  1. Ooohhh, good luck!! I was always tempted by the chemistry degrees over Edinburgh way, as I knew they offered a year in the States, but after my daughter was born, Strathclyde was my only option. I spent my placement year in AZ Macclesfield and it was fantastic! I can't wait to hear what adventures you get up via your blog and Instagram! Try and visit ALL the hard rock cafes! :D x

  2. Hope you have an amazing time! I'm sorry to hear about your dog. The loss of a pet is always difficult but these circumstances must make it even worse. Sending you love from Cardiff!
