My Lush Spa Experience, The Comforter

Wednesday, 19 July 2017
Lush is one of my all-time favourite companies. They tick all my boxes – exciting products, great quality, cruelty-free, affordable, fun etc. I could go on about how much I love it. In fact, I already have, if you remember my post about 5 reasons why you should be shopping at Lush. But one thing that I’d never tried was one of their spa treatments. I put it on my 101 things in 1001 days list and a few days before I left the UK I finally got around to ticking it off. I booked my appointment at the Lush Spa in Edinburgh by giving them a call, it was super quick and easy. I’d ideally wanted to try The Good Hour but they didn’t have any therapists trained for that treatment on the day that I was planning on visiting so I opted instead to try The Comforter. And I’m very glad that I did because it was such a great experience!

When I arrived I was escorted down into the spa. I’ve been before when I visited for their Tales of Bath bloggers event but this was my first time going for an actual treatment. Despite being located under the busy Princes Street store, it’s a totally serene environment. The spa is designed to look like an English country kitchen, you’d never believe where you actually are! Here, my therapist explained the procedure to me whilst I filled out some paperwork (basically to displace any medical conditions they’d need to be aware of). Then I was escorted into my treatment room for it to begin.

The room was darkened with a pink light casting a beautiful glow around the room. My therapist (I feel so guilty that I can’t remember her name because she was so lovely) left me to get change and get under a towel, which is when I took the opportunity to take a sneaky photo. The Comforter is a scrub and massage combination treatment and during the treatment, you lie on a massage bed under a heated duvet! When the therapist reentered the room she started off with the scrub. It’s a chocolate-scented scrub that is actually heavenly. The scrub is applied limb by limb and massaged in with gentle sweeping motions. Only one part of your body is ever outside of the duvet at once so  I felt like such a snug little bug.

The scrub is removed using towels and mitts. This is the only part that I wasn’t overly keen on as I didn’t feel it was quite right, my hands and feet especially were still left feeling pretty gritty and I had to towel them off before I left. My only downside to the treatment! At this point, I was asked to move from my back to my front. The massage carried out with a beautiful rose scented serum. It is delicious! Unfortunately, the products used in this treatment are spa exclusives so if you want to try them out, you’ll just have to book in for The Comforter yourself! The massage was again absolutely heavenly. I just floated away and felt so zen. All the Lush spa treatments have their own soundtracks and The Comforter’s is very upbeat. It’s made of fun covers of really famous songs – my particular favourite was a cover of Hushaby Mountain from the musical Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Once the massage was over, I was left to get dressed and join my therapist back in the main spa area. The Comforter has its own special drink which she made for me, there was also fruit laid out for me to help myself to. As my treatment was now finished, I had some time together myself and was let loose in the bathroom.  It’s almost worth visiting the spa just for the bathroom! Loads of products are laid out for you to try. I gave myself a mini facial in the bathroom with some of the skincare products so I felt properly pampered by the time I left the spa.

I can’t review this service without talking about the price. Unfortunately, the spa treatments are not the cheapest. You’ll definitely be able to get a cheaper massage somewhere else; however, I think that so much work and thought has gone into these treatments that they are 100% worth the money. I’m already planning another trip back when I’m home for Christmas! I had some money on a birthday gift card that put towards my treatment which I think is a great way to reduce the cost! When anyone asks me what I want for Christmas I’m going to ask for Lush gift cards so that I can put them towards my next treatment.

Overall, a trip to a Lush Spa is so much more than a massage. I can’t wait to go back.
